Here's a nice introduction to the Boston Blackie series. A Close Call For Boston Blackie is a 1946 film starring Chester Morris. George E Stone plays The Runt, Blackie's sidekick. They did 14 films together and this is number 10. Blackie gets involved with a dame he used to see. She married a bum who got sent up river. She shows up at Blackie's place with a kid in tow. She tells Blackie and The Runt her story and they offer to help. The husband, released yesterday, shows up at Blackie's place, creates a scene, and is murdered. Don't worry it wasn't Blackie what did it. He was just framed by some guy who's got a plot going on to get some dough from the grandfather of the kid. The flat feet show up and roust Blackie who has to give them the slip so he can figure out the plot and keep his butt out of the slammer. It's an entertaining picture, kind of light hearted and flip, with some murderous types who get brought down by Blackie.
