The library coughed up a copy of the 5th series of Death In Paradise and I watched the 8 episodes yesterday. I enjoy the characters and the murder mysteries are fairly interesting.
Kris Marshall returns as DI Humphrey Goodman and he's joined by Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers, Josephine Jobert as DS Florence Cassel, Tobi Bakare as Officer JP Hooper, Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey and Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson. So far Danny and Don are the only ones who have been in the whole series.
The episodes all have interesting puzzles and characters for the murders. Like who shot the guy in the boat when they're were no other boats in the area and all the others were diving and could see anyone who went back to the boat. Or the woman in the shower room, dead, leaning against the only door. The list of the dead is all over the place, a governor, a barber, a fashion model, a chef, anyone can die in Paradise. There are plenty of good guest stars too. Only two stand out as people I knew from other shows: Wendy Craig appears as Humphrey's Aunt and Sally Bretton appears as Humphrey's old girlfriend. Some of the guests are sort of familiar but I can't place them with the help of the internet. I refuse to learn everyone's name at this point. Just too many to think about. Besides that, the research often takes up a lot of time, cutting into viewing time.
There are the usual personal activities of the tiny police force and all the lush South Seas scenery. All in all a good series and one of the reasons that the show keeps gaining in viewers each series. The first series averaged just under 6 million viewers and the 5th series had climbed to just under 9 million. Worth a look for the murder mystery fan.
