The second series of The League Of Gentlemen returns with much more slaughter than last time. The poor town of Royston Vasey is getting punched in the nuts with plague. The citizens are dropping like flies, there's three still piled up in front of the port-a-potty. The second series started airing back in January 2000 and there were 6 episodes. There are big changes for the locals. Papa Lazarou has come to town with his Pandemonium Carnival and that isn't good. Funny, though. Pauline has lost her job in the Job Center. She doesn't take that well and she takes Ross hostage. She's about as shit at being a kidnapper as she was helping people at the Job Center. Benjamin had nearly escaped the town but he's back at his aunt and uncle's place. Things go better for him than most of the people in RV. Those twins are real cuties. Good sense of humor too. Herr Lip arrives, he's German, and he's pretty frustrated by the time he leaves. That made me laugh too. Owners of the local shop, Edward and Tubbs, almost marry Barbara to their son David, but it ends with a blood bath and a big ass fire. Some people just don't know how to plan a party. Never invite a mob, especially one with flaming torches, to your party. Don't worry, plenty of folks survive for the third series.
I think once you buy into the world of Royston Vasey it all seems to make sense. It's off the wall, a bit dark, and certainly bloody, but it's not so alien that you can't see the influences of the past, or find the jokes. Some people might not find those jokes funny but there you go, they can watch a different comedy. I certainly don't find all comedy funny. I sure don't care for a lot of sitcoms. I'm not buying their DVDs. I'm thinking of buying these.
