Someone lent me their copy of Stranger Things Season 1. I hadn't decided to pick up a copy myself, it's only available from Target. It comes in packaging that resembles a VHS tape release from the 80s. It's much bigger than a tape and there's a lot of the price tied up in paper, printing and magnets. The later isn't something one would want around a tape from the era.
It's set in a small town in Indiana in 1983. A boy goes missing and his friends help look for him. It's not a typical missing kid story, there's a local government research facility that's opened the door to a dangerous alternate dimension and nasty bitey critters have gotten out to kidnap the locals for snacks.
There's a heap of characters, some good effects, and it's not too dire. I found it entertaining and hope to see the second season once that hits disc.
