The 2nd series of The Sweeney continues with John Thaw and Dennis Waterman as DI Jack Regan and DS George Carter of the Flying Squad. I like both of these actors a good bit. John would go onto make plenty of other series but I bet he's best known for Inspector Morse. I have seen enough of those to know that I needed to buy the set. Dennis I have been enjoying in the New Trick series. That was worth buying. I have the series Minder, with Dennis in a lot of them, but haven't had time to watch them yet. Series 2 of The Sweeney has 13 episodes and they aired in 1975. It's a good lot of stories with plenty of baddies to catch. My favorite was the episode with the bank robbery hostage situation. It has to be the episode with the most people squatting in the whole complete series. Sadly, George has a bad time when his wife is killed in a hit and run, she was wearing the coat of the real target. The reality is the actress wanted more money so they killed her character off. I watch a disc every few days and I've still enjoying the characters and their stories. They're got a nice blend of drama and humor. I found it curious that no one I mentioned the series to had heard of it. I learned from a commentary track last series that the show wasn't sold to the US because they didn't think they'd get it here. We got it in Canada and I was a fan of the show back in the 70s. By the 2nd series the show had gotten really popular in England. All kinds of actors wanted to guest star, this series had a few that I knew: Lesley-Anne Down, Patrick Troughton, Liz Smith, Margaret Whiting, John Rhys-Davies, Alun Armstrong, Michael Ripper, Roy Kinnear and Michael Coles. A nice bunch of good actors and the ones I didn't know are all pretty good too.
