I saw this mentioned on Facebook and watched it. I really liked it and I'm not a fan of the Foo Fighters. I wasn't familiar with the song but I see it's not from the first album. I seem to remember hearing some of the songs off that album, made mostly single handedly by Dave Grohl himself. I might have even had the album but I don't have it now. It was at a time when I was losing interest in bands and buying albums with one or two good songs and a lot of dross on the other tracks. I'm looking at you Shawn Mullins.
That's Fabio Zaffagnini who is the creator of Rockin1000 and he worked for over a year on this project. He got 1000 musicians to come together, from all over Italy, to play the Foo Fighter song Learn to Fly. The goal was to attract the attention of Dave and his band and invite them to come play their town Cesena. Dave has since announced, in Italian, he would be dropping by.
There's the band at play with the conductor's tower by the yellow tent. The band is made up of men and women and even a few children. From the event diary there seems to be little time for the big band to play together which makes the whole thing even more amazing that it works so well.
That's a few of my favorite images from the video. I really like when people do things like this, makes me glad to be a human, it's nice seeing people create good things. So much of the stuff you see on the internet isn't so nice.
Take a listen. I think the song is more enjoyable than the Foo Fighters versions I heard over the weekend. I'll still not bother with the band but I'm betting when they show up in Cesena that someone will have a good time at their show. I'd rather see this video again.
