Kitkat 2

That's one of the dark chocolate Kitkat bars. Looks pretty dark. All smooth and sexy. Still I wonder what the chocolate would taste like. Some of the Japanese Candy I have had has been pretty awful. Of all the Japanese Candy that I have tried there's nothing that makes me wish I had it right in my hands this very minute. It's like Mexican Candy, have you seen some of this stuff, it looks awful. I can't even bring to imagine trying some of the spice candies I see at the Cub and other grocery stories. I went to a Mexican bakery a couple of times and it was not to my taste. I find it  hard to get good baked goods anymore. And anything good is dear in price. They want 5 bucks for a piece of fairly fancy cake over at the Lunds. They are an somewhat upscale grocery store. I go there occasionally when I eat at the Old Country Buffet on the Ford Parkway in Saint Paul. It's just 5 minutes away over the river. It's a good place to go eat on a saturday. Home cookin' for when I ain't home cookin'. It's one of the few places I go to eat anymore. I cut out the fast food and Chinese. I used to get a burger occasionally at The SteakKnife in Dinkytown but that isn't the same anymore. It's all sad. But I can dream about eating these exotic Kitkats. I can be sitting with that bear from the bath. He can be telling what it was like to be bathing with a naked woman. Do you think it would be impolite to ask him if bears shed? It's my fantasy so I guess I can do anything I like, and I wouldn't even worry if it doesn't make any sense. That is a Lemon Cheesecake Kitkat over there. That makes more sense to me than the bean version.  

Kitkat

I started looking for more Kitkat pictures on the internet. There are a ton of them. I did try the white Kitkat and it wasn't very good. The orange I scarfed down in Canada. I missed the mint and cocoa. There's a global Kitkat site. You can see Kitkat's from all over the world. Some of the site's don't seem to be working. Kitkat power failing in some places. The Japan site has a good selection of Kitkat's, more than most it seems and with such flavors. Click on the Online shop and let the packages scroll by. According to the Kitkat-wiki it's the number one selling bar in Japan. And with flavors like green tea I can imagine why. Hey, that's no joke, the Japanese take their green tea serious, and shit. Years ago I video taped a tea ceremony at work. Some people from the company's Japan branch did the ceremony. As cameraman I got a cup of tea and a bit of sweet jelly candy. I didn't like the green tea and the jelly was fair. I wonder where that tape went. There is a long list of Kitkat editions and flavors at that Wiki link. It's a pretty amazing list.

Now that banana Kitkat. That sounds intriguing. I would at least try that. I'd try the green tea but I bet I wouldn't care for it. Banana and chocolate go together. Depends on the banana flavor. The other wrapper I was not sure about. Some kind of soup? It scares me. It seems to have beans in it. That just doesn't seem right to my Canadian forged palate. Beans first, then dessert. Beans aren't a sweet snack. Especially those long green beans. Yuck. They are the opposite of a snack. Like a punishment. They don't even taste good raw.

Turns out that's a Kitkat based on the Japanese shaved ice treat Kakigouri. Flavored syrup is poured over the ice and azuki sweet bean paste and sweetened condensed milk is added. I got the syrup part but after that I am backing off and leaving the room. I'll skip dessert. That's a better picture of the dessert and the green Kitkat. There seems to be an uncovered cookie version as well.

Black Thunder

Here's a candy bar from Japan called Black Thunder. The first thing that pops into my mind is, "Goin' in or comin' out!" Ha. I found it on some blog. Here's what that guy said: I purchased a candy bar today called “Black Thunder.”…as if that weren’t enough, the label claims that this “cocoa cookie crunch” has “lightning-class flavor” and, somewhat disturbingly, is “very popular with young girls.” It's even worse than I thought. Still, I'd try one.

What the Hell?

Who thinks of these things? It's like a Carmen Miranda hat. Maybe it's a Christmas tree. That's the trouble with out of context photos. I wonder what's holding it up. Those Mickey Mouse pops look frostylicious but since they are being sold in Tokyo I would suspect that they might be squid or cod flavored. I would ask before getting one. Why isn't there  any beef flavored ice cream. I had beef flavored potato chips years ago. Poore Brothers has some steak and onion chips that were pretty good. The worst chips I ever tasted, and that's hands down the winner, were some grape and cherry flavored potato chips. This was back in the 60's in Winnipeg. The flavors were sold seperately.

I hate to say what that Oreo bar looks like. Yep. Every other damn candy bar. It looks like there are nuts in there. What the hell do nuts have to do with Oreo's. I wish I had one.  I don't know if I would like that Strawberry KitKat. It might be bad. Just because someone made it and sells it doesn't mean it's good in my mouth. It's amazing what people will eat. The one true thing I know is that all people seem to have a food dish that looks like vomit. It's got a lot of names but you can't fool me. Some might tell you that it's good eatin' but I wouldn't know. Food is like stories. It's a taste thing. The Canadian candy industry has been experimenting with other flavors for it's popular candy bars. I am surprised that I hadn't seen the Strawberry there. It might have come and gone. So many things do.
