First up, Cursed, Wes Craven's pretty standardy werewolf movie. It's average, and a bit slow. There are a couple of laughs and Christina Ricci looks ok, especially if you like her. She's been in better movies, looking cuter, Pecker for one. I liked Judy Greer as the bitchy publicist but I like her in most things. She plays the bitchy type so well, you can hardy wait for her to get killed. As Joe said this movie has all the elements to make a good film but it's just not that good, and it gets a 4.6 on IMDb, which might be a little low, it should be a 5. (as I rewrite this and add dvd covers in 2014 the IMDB has put the movie up to a 4.9). It think it's average but not below average. There are good production values at least, which offsets the Kevin Williamson script. It's wants to be funny and serious at the same time, and that doesn't always work. According to the first entry on this IMDb comment page, the movie went through 4 major shoots with lots of script and character changes, then it was reduced to PG13. Luckily we saw the unrated version, which hopefully had the excised material put back in to make it an R and make the story more cohesive.
Our second movie Bloodtide nearly killed me with boredom. Man, what a piece of crap. It's a 1972 British film also known as Demon Island. Martin Kove and his wife are looking for his sister on some Greek islands. James Earl Jones is a layabout relic hunter who unleashes a crappy monster from a cave. The monster is a ambidextrous people eater, chomping them in the water and on dry land. The locals tell everyone they need to appease the monster with virgins. Some locals are slaughtered by the sad looking monster. Sadly it never got interesting, not with all that stuff going on, it just dragged along, yuck. Time for bed.
I just watched "Cursed". I enjoyed it. Yes, it wasn't one of her better movies (and, yes, I've seen most of them). I think it should get above a 5. Admittedly the walking on the ceiling is questionable, IMHO. I watched "Alone in the Dark" for the second time last night and iMDb only gave it a 2.2. I liked that one too although "Cursed" was a bit better. "Alone in the Dark" wasn't a great movie but it had its moments. It reminded me a bit more of "Buffy" or "Angel". I don't recall seeing "Bloodtide".
