I had been so tied up in reading Harry Potter that it sure seemed like I wasn't doing much of anything else. I did read some other books while I was reading the first 4 books but once I hit #5 it was nearly total immersion. I didn't see many movies or watch much tv either. Didn't build anything since I finished In The Hall Of The Mountain Grill. I did buy some LEGO on ebay. Three sales from the same person. I got the last of it today. I had seen an elephant over at Brian's house a couple of months ago and had mentally kicked myself for not picking up some of the pachydem containing Adventure sets when they were on clearance at
the, now gone, Kay Bee Toys in the Mall Of America. That was the best place to get some clearance LEGO during 2003 - 2004. I got a lot of sets from 2001 and 2002 there pretty cheap. Other local LEGO people seem to miss the place too. I scan ebay occasionally, not needing anything in particular, but looking for cheap stuff. I just happened to catch a lady on the east coast selling two elephants and riders a couple of weeks ago. That's the listing photo up there on the left. The minifig on the elephant is the same one, his name is Babloo. I know! He came with the Adventure set 7414, which is also the home of the elephant, and the same sets that I didn't get back when. It's a dark gray elephant. The old gray. There's a light gray elephant also. It's old light gray. After I had won the first pair and the lady sent it, she listed a second set of sales, one of which had an elephant. A light gray elephant, along with a horse and two minifigs. I like the 4 tusked elephant with the chain from her listing. You can always use another chain. It was a good listing, and so was the other 12 LEGO Knights. That's her pictures below.
I like the arrangement of the knights, and you can see they come with a nice group of weapons and stuff. The minfigs are kind of mixed up, wrong heads and legs, but at 90 cents each, including postage, who cares.
They make a good edition to the building stock. I don't mind taking these guys apart and using their heads on other bodies. They come from all sorts of Castle sets going back several years. The oldest is the guy in the upper right. He's was in a couple Black Falcon sets which was out in the mid 80's. The two guys on the right are the Maharaja Lallu and another Babloo. Those names just do not roll off the tongue. I do like the Maharaja's costume but I sometimes wish they wouldn't stick a knife in every other minifigs pants. I'm not happy to see that. I don't know why LEGO doesn't sell a pack of die cut stickers that let you change the costume of the figure when ever you needed to. Then give us blank minifigs. Here are the elephants in their gray glory. Now I have to find something for them to do. It's always easier to figure out the puzzle when you have more pieces.
