Here's Harry, Ron and Hermione sitting by the fire in the Gryffindor common room. They spend a lot of time in those seats. I was interested in building a curved wall and this seemed like a good place to start. I'd seen this technique used in other castles and I liked the way it looked. I used a bit of artistic license on the wall. It should be a lot less curved. I wanted to accentuate the curve and the encapsulate the scene with the wall. It looks kind of cozy in there.
I wanted to use the tan bricks, it's close to the color used in the movie Hogwarts, and I have a lot of tan bricks. I don't remember reading anything in the books that described the color of the building, it could be gray for all I know. Maybe JK will put that into her encyclopedia. There's no mention of the building color over at the Harry Potter Lexicon. There isn't a lot of detail in much of the series. The Gryffindor common room is round, and it's got armchairs and tables and a fireplace. Nothing much else is mentioned.
I seem to build a lot of fireplaces in the stuff I make. I wonder what that means?
