Mike brought the 4th episode of Cinematic Titanic. They were trying to make fun of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians but Dropo kicked their sorry silhouetted asses. They're just didn't bring enough funny to defeat Bill McCutcheon's soul destroying preformance as a Martian Comic Relief Machine Dropo. Watching his green skin antics actually makes you more stupid. And sleepy. In fact this new episode knocked out half the viewing public in the room. It almost took me down, it was a struggle at the hour mark to keep awake. There were a couple of laughs for me but that's pretty slim pickens, for an 85 minute show. Like the other episodes in the series so far I'm just not thinking that they are very good. I had seen most of the MST3K version of SCCTM about a week ago and that was a much funnier show. Sperhauk thinks it was the 'bots, and Mike Nelson. MST3K was better when he was the head writer. Nelson's The Film Crew is a funnier series. I did like the robot in the movie. That's him on the cover of that comic. Some amazing technology those Martian have. The movie, not the CT version, scores a 2.6 on the IMDb and it's well deserved. It's poor in every possible way, acting, writing, directing, sets, special effects, everything. Still, it's fun to watch at least once, just for it's badness. The polar bear is something that you just need to see.
I picked up a copy of the Jet Li and Jason Statham movie WAR at BestBuy for $5. I don't know that I got my money's worth. It's a pretty standard fare Western version of a Hong Kong movie, but lacking the spirit of it's Asian brothers. Jet Li is Rogue, a super secret assassin allied with some Yakuza group, who has a constantly changing face. He's pretty good, all sullen and shit. Statham is a cop who's partner and family are killed by Rogue. The plot has some revenge elements, some double cross elements, some rival gang fight elements, some blah, blah, blah elements, some twisty ending elements. It's a whole bunch of stuff you've seen before. The movie looks good for the most part. The director Phillip G. Atwell directed some video's for Eminem and 5o Cent. This is his first movie, and that movie seems made up of a lot of quick cuts. Sometimes you couldn't even tell what was going on in a fight. Even though Corey Yeun was the martial arts choreographer the fights weren't that great. Some of it was the direction. Better to Netflix this than buy, even for a fin. There are so many better movies to re-watch.
