I posted a pic of a concept ship to the TwinLUG group. That's the one to the left. The idea is to have everyone attempt a build a ship inspired by the one in the picture and bring it to the meeting. It's a good excuse to build some ships and get some practice in another theme. The idea came to me via the Chas Irish and JD Luse MOCcomparison, but the idea originated from Chas and Sterling Knight. It was a good idea, here's the MOCpages group for it.
I call my attempt The Rook because my eye fell on the chess piece on my china cabinet and the car is dark blay which is a castle color a lot of the time. The chess piece rook was made in one of those 3D printers. I knew a guy who worked at one of the companies that make them. I wonder what happened to that guy. He stopped coming to Friday Night Movie night after he got married. Just another one of the people that disappear out of your life. It's a good thing. I haven't got time for everyone.
I posted the concept picture just the friday before the meeting as an example to get people interested and generate some conversation. There wasn't much time and I didn't expect anyone to have the time to get anything done in two days. I decided to try, as did Roy. Seeing those ships, and I don't have a picture of Roy's ship yet, helped sell people the idea. We might have some people actually make someships for the September meeting. Max has one he posted the monday after the meeting. He calls it an air car. Roy's was even more off model. I didn't take time to wrok out any fancy stuff and blasted through from beginning to end in about 6 hours on the saturday before the meeting. Nathan has been elected to select the next picture for the following meeting. You can see more pictures of my piece at MOCpages.
