Resident Evil: Degeneration was running on cable the other day so I snagged that to watch today. It's a 2008 Japanese CGI animated film that is set in the same universe as the live action films but based more on the video games. I haven't played those and don't plan to start. I liked the live action films but didn't care as much for this film. No Milla Jovovich to start. There's some people in an airport when a plane crashes into it. Infected people come on out and start chomping the living. Things get bad when some guy mutates and starts tearing the building apart. Lots of people get slaughtered and infected. There's some backstory with the main characters but mostly that's kind of dull. Not much of a look to the thing either, too dark and spattery. Here's the trailer to take a look at. I'll stick with the live action films from here on out.
I snagged Meet Dave of the same cable. It's from 2008 and I had forgotten that it came out. Eddie Murphy plays the commander of a Eddie Murphy shaped spaceship. He comes to earth looking for a metal ball that some kid has. The alien's are human like but really tiny. They are kind of stick in the muds, not much emotion. The movie is co-written by Bill Corbett from the MST3K and Riff Tracks groups. Sadly it's not much of a script but that might not be Bill's fault. The comedy is rather broad and the jokes kind of flat. There are some parts that I had to fast forward through, like when the macho space secruity head went all flamboyantly gay on us. Kevin Hart plays his typically mugging goof and Gabrielle Union just looks hot as the number 3 officer on the ship. Everything works out for the most part and the special effects are pretty entertaining. It did poorly at the box office and didn't make it's cost back yet. You can certainly do better than this if you want to watch a comedy with Eddie Murphy. Watch Bowfinger instead.
