There are a whole bunch of new impulse sets coming. They are all small polybagged sets with a handfull of pieces inside. I found the first one and bought a couple of them.
30105 Stephanie and Mailbox
Target has this little polybag set in the Valentine's area. It's $3.99 for 41 parts, including the minifig but not including the 5 extra pieces. There's Stephanie posting a letter to someone, or most likely she's paying her bills. The mailbox isn't what I expect in my neighborhood but that's a good reminder that Heartlake City isn't my town, one which could be improved by some pinks and lime greens and teals. Now I don't know what the hell that is next to the mailbox. I put it together and I still don't know what to think. It's got a flower growing out of a plate next to something pink and brown. Is that brown plate dirt or chocolate? I don't know. There's more pink in this set, percentage wise, than the others I've built, 14 of the 46 parts are pink. There's got to be something to make with all the pink parts I'm stocking up on. I'll have to keep on racking the old noggin. Mostly nothing to exciting in this set. It's part of a batch of small poly sets that I see previewed on sites like Brickset or Eurobricks but havent seen on the street yet. I'll pick the others up if I see them
30100 Andrea At The Beach
Here's a simple little set. Nice purple pail and flag. There's a fish and a crab, some good tan pieces and a pearl gold telescope. That shovel sure looks dark green to me. Looks like about 28 parts, and while it isn't much of a set, some of those pieces could come in handy. I'd probably get one if I saw it in a store but I wouldn't pay extra for it, like say from Bricklink. Just not that kind of value.
30101 Mia On Skateboard
I count 27 parts in this set. Mia on her skateboard with a flower and a fire plug next to what could be a table with a bottle on it. Looks poorly thought out. Really, who needs another skateboard? The ice cream part and the purple flowers would be ok but another one that isn't very inspiring. I'm less likely to pick this one up, even if it turns up around here.
30102 Olivia and Laptop
Here's one that I would pick up because it has a better selection of parts. The laptop would be handy, same for the pearl gold telescope and pink cup. That pink tile seems to be an MP3 player or possibly a phone. I'm not sure of the part under the flower. I can't quite see it. The rest of the parts are ok. Nice azure or teal 1x1 round bricks and dark pink arches. One of these sets are bound to turn up at TRU for more than other stores. Hope it's not this one.
30103 Emma's Car
Here's a set that could be more than 30 parts. Kind of hard to guess with the car. It's another I probably wouldn't bother with. I have too many wheels already and the rest of the parts just aren't that interesting. Those might be new wheel rims with the hubcap look.
50000245 Stephanie
I didn't see a number on this bag but Bricklink had one. It might be a promo piece. There's just Stephanie and a azure 2x2 brick which makes no sense to me. Someone is selling them on Bricklink for 7 bucks but that wasn't a price I would pay. Let the collectors have them, huh. This is the 16th set listed on Bricklink right now. There were 14 in the first wave and these two polybag sets have turned up a couple of weeks after the Jan 1 launch. There have been a few leaks about the tsunami of new sets coming. There could be as many as 20 if the leakers are right. The theme is sure getting a big push, hopefully they will find their market. The girls I see at the LEGO store are usually keen on the sets and they are selling well according to the staff. The key would be sustainability. I haven't picked up all the current ones but I probably will. I'll keep on reviewing them as the days pass. I'm also harvesting images from the web and will try to post a few of the better ones.
Hey, speaking of nice, here's a nice moc by Cale Liephart, which I saw posted on The Brothers Brick the other day. I went to see if there was more on his Flickr photostream and there was. I like the way he's used all the types of flowers to create a riot of color.
