Here's a set that has a nice price per piece average. The sets got 447 parts for $39.99 and that includes the 4 minifigs. Bricklink says it's got 13 extra parts and Brickset says the average price per part is 8.946 cents. The set showed up in the LEGO store recently and I looked it over and studied the inventory and I'm still not pushing myself to pick one up because of the type of parts and the colors. There just isn't the right mix of what I think I need. I did pick up the Monster Fighter 9468 Vampyre Castle set that I blogged about a couple of weeks back because it has a nice mix ofparts that I want. I took a nice large pile of unwanted parts to the last TwinLUG meeting with the intention of selling them and using any proceeds to buy some new sets with parts that I wanted to use. The Castle set was the one that offered the best assortment for the best price. The LEGO store was also out of several other sets that were on the list to pick up. Sometimes they are so poorly stocked you have to wonder.
I've decided that the Monster Fighter vehicles make me think they belong in some Saturday morning cartoon with their oddly styled bodies and goofy weapons. The rather silly truck has a cow catcher, some kind of flick missiles and two giant hammers that seem like they could bury themselves in the ground on the down stroke and lift that truck off the ground or stop it dead. The other odd thing I thought about the hammers is that the zombie has to be right by the side of the open truck cab for the hammers to do their zombie whackin' job. Does Jack McHammer have a death wish? The crypt is ok and there are a couple of action bits. A lever sends the cauldron and it's contents flying and the coffins have some sort of mechanism to raise the dead. Not sure why the zombie bride isn't there with the zombie groom. I have a feeling she doesn't fit but I can't tell for sure from the instructions. No matter, it's still a nice bit of movement that I might remember and use later.
That picture off of the LEGO site shows the action. They have a bunch of nice graphics to look at, wall papers and the like. Some themes have more stuff that others but they usually have something. I'm not a big fan of the free games that they have. I tire quickly of them but that can be said about me and most flash games.
That's the four minifigs: Jack McHammer, the Zombie Bride and Groom and their chauffeur. Not an attractive crowd that's for sure. The costumes are great but like many specifically targeted designs they have a less limited use than a dress or suit that isn't damaged. That's a nice shirt and vest on Jack but that robot arm doesn't work in as many mocs as a plain green sleeve would. They aren't the minifigs I'm searching for.
I guess I won't bother with picking up a set, unless I find it on clearance sometime. I'm glad I don't feel the urge to buy all the sets the company produces. They have so many coming out all the time that it's really easy to pick the cream of the crop, at least through my eyes. Someone else might want that set more than me.
