We had a Hawaiian themed picnic at work today and somehow that got the theme song from Hawaii Five-O in my head and I couldn't stop humming it. It's has to be one of my favorite theme songs from when it was new in 1968. I love all the horns and drums and guitar sounds. I had a single of it that I near wore out. I watched that show every week, even the reruns and some time in the middle of the 70's I quit and haven't been back since. I still like the theme and the images in the credit sequence are pretty entertaining. Here's a version by The Ventures that was taken from a laserdisc and posted to YouTube. Not sure when it was recorded. Here's another by them that seems to be much earlier, maybe the 60's. Here's one from their album. Here's Star Wars with the theme attached. Here's The Ventures doing Walk Don't Run from that laserdisc and a 60's version. Here's The Ventures version of The House Of The Rising Son, the original by The Animals and a version by Jimi Hendrix. Here's one of the greast covers ever, The Stranglers doing Walk On By, the Burt Bacharak and Hal David song that was originally done by Dionne WarWick. I had the British Import of the album and it came with a single of Walk On By. I played it all the time and did the same with the CD when I got that. I only rarely play it nowadays. And just for fun here's the 1963 Kyu Sakamoto hit Sukiyaki. Here's something that another link lead me to. Roy Clark preforming Malaguena from a 1969 tv show. It might have been this same show that I saw back then. Roy and Buck Owens both starred on Hee Haw and they did a segment called Pickin' and Grinnin'. Don Herron, a Canadian actor, played the newscaster.
