The last series of Black Books has 6 episodes just like the previous 2 series. The shows are about the same quality. Bernard, Manny and Fran are still hanging out at the bookstore that hardly sells any books. The trio are all barely functioning dumb asses who cause most of their own troubles. In some ways I find it quite like a traditonal 1950s or 60s sitcom, but with more yelling, drinking and swearing. You know I like the swearing. Sometimes I find the trio's irratic behaviour trying.
Manny Come Home has Bernard all alone in the shop. Fran has been on holiday and Manny quit after a fight with Bernard. Manny didn't go far, he's working in the nice new bookstore next door. He's also secretly living there. It's a modern place with computers, spinning bookracks and muffin making machines. He doesn't fit in and his boss, Simon Pegg, is really horrible. Bernard is decaying without Manny by his side and he's no fun for Fran. She works on getting Manny to go back to Black Books but it's the new haircut rules that scare him home.
Elephants and Hens has Fran off to a holiday with some old girl friends. Bernard and Manny stay in the shop, drink a lot, then write a kid's book. Of course they ruin everything. The boys destroy their possibly great manucsript and the girls all hate Fran. It's all back to what counts for normal.
Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa is like that Damon Runyan story. Manny lied to his parents and said he's becoming a partner in the shop. He told them Bernard works for him and Fran was his girlfriend. Bernard deletes the parents messages for Manny unheard. The parents show up unexpectedly so they try to pretend it's all true.
A Little Flutter has Bernard become addicted to gambling. He's an idiot. Fran and Manny have to figure out who to get the shop back from the other card players.
Travel Writer has a travel writer at the store on a book tour. Bernard's landlord dies and leaves the building to a cat. Bernard hires a cat assassin but that fails.
Party has the trio go to a party. It ends poorly. They are idiots.
There are a fair number of jokes and silly situations. It makes me laugh though sometimes the trio are all too miserable. I guess they are their own punishments for being who they are. There were commentaries on the first two series but nothing on this set. I guess they ran out of things to say.
