The Daleks are back in the 60th Doctor Who serial. The 4 parter first aired on January 1 1972. It's the first time that the Daleks had appeared in 5 years. Sadly there are only three of them in the show. In the opening episode there's an attack on a politician. The attacker disappears mid attack and the Brigadier is called in. He sends the Doctor and Jo Grant tags along. The politician has changed his mind and claims it was a nightmare. We know it's not true and the Doc is of the same mind. A soldier is attacked and a strange weapon found. The attackers are freedom fighters from the future that have come back in time to kill the politician that started the war that devastated the Earth and left the population vulnerable to the Dalek invasion. In the scuffle in the house Jo gets sent to the future. The Doctor gets hold of one of their time travel devices and follows. As soon as they get to the future the two are captured. Of course they escape. They even lure the Daleks and their henchmen back to the past and blow them up. The future is saved. It was an ok story, better than some, that's for sure. It wrapped up pretty well and had some ok characters. The final fight with the Daleks wasn't too hot and the BBC paid to have some modern CGI added to the serial. They put that on a second disc. They CGI in a few more Daleks and add a lot of laser blasts. In the original program when some one was shot they just fell down. Here the blasters actually blast the person, or alien, into pieces. In the original the Doctor blasts an alien henchman without being attacked. In the remastered version the alien shot first. There are the usual interviews and featurettes with the various creators. I enjoy watching those.
