We watched the Blu-Ray of World War Z tonight. I wasn't very impressed with the story but the big ass action scenes were fairly interesting. The movie moved along pretty quickly right from the start but about 2/3 of the way through it bogged down and finished dully. There were far too many plot holes and unconvincing plot elements. Hell of a lotta zombies though. Sadly, they weren't really zombies, they were people who were infected by a virus which drove them to bite people in order to infect more people. Brad figures out a way to stop them but most of the people in the world are killed. Not sad that I saw it but I'll probably not bother picking up a copy. I don't think I would need to see it again. That's partly the movie and partly me wanting to have less stuff. I used to want more stuff but over the last several years I've been thinking that the whole getting a lot of stuff idea has backfired some. Now I have a lot of stuff and it's all over my house. With the ponderance of self storage units around the city I figure I'm not alone. I suppose I could get storage unit. Better to get rid of some stuff instead. Especially books. I'm thinking of e-books and maybe getting an e-book reader. They sure can be lighter. I'm reading the 4th Harry Potter book right now and I'm reading the British edition because it's quite a bit lighter. The US edition is much better in every way but weight.
Our second movie was much more fun than our first. Dust Up is a 2012 movie with Amber Benson. You might remember her as Tara from the Buffy The Vampire series. Here she's a poor sap who's married a stupid guy who wasted all their money on meth. They live in a crappy foreclosed house in the desert. Hubby owes $3500 bucks to his dealer Buzz. Amber calls high desert handyman John, played by Aaron Gaffey, when she has some plumbing problems. John wants to live a somewhat isolated life because he's all fucked up from his tour in Afganistan. He lives near an indian guy, played by Devin Berry, who wanted to get back to his roots and poop outdoors. He's not quite as thrilled with nature's outhouse than he thought he would be. I always thought it was fun to whizz in the woods but not #2. Who needs bugs on your ass. Buzz needs some money to pay off a crooked cop and he puts pressure on Amber's dumb ass hubby. That goes poorly and there's a debacle at Buzz's bar & meth lab. The lab gets blown up during the fight. The crroked cops shows up to find Buzz and his henchmen out int he parking lot of the burning bar. Buzz winds up killing the crooked cop and the gang move over to Amber's house. Buzz turns the crooked cop's body as a BBQ snack for his followers and everyone has a bite. Eventually Buzz is impaled by a bit of justice. The movie is a bit gorey but not overly much so. Some of it looks rather fakey but you get the idea. The story is pretty simple, it moves briskly enough, and the dialog is goofy. There's plenty of nice outdoor footage shot at Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, California. It's pretty entertaining as a whole and worth a look for those that might like that type of story.
