I watched the whole miniseries over the last few days. It's ten 90 minute movies. Strip out the what happened last episode opening sequence, the begining titles, the end credits and they're about 80 minutes long. Less when I fast forward. It's this long spralling story about aliens and families so you know I did. The story opens during World War II and a pilot gets taken from his crashing bomber. After he wakes 3 days later in a field he doesn't know what happened. He returns home to have issues. We follow his and two other families about 50 year into the future. Lots of characters and lots of yakking. Occasionally there's some alien interaction and some action. Alien contact seems to bring out the worst in people. The Crawford family is especially ruthless.
Leslie Bohem wrote the series. He wrote a few other movies I haven't seen and aren't interested in. He was the bass player in Sparks. I liked their first album a lot. Various directors did their job and the series was produced by Speilberg. Lots of nice production values and special effects. I thought it was nearly ok to watch once but I wouldn't need to see it again. There just wasn't enough interesting story to support the 800 minutes of story and I'd get bored with the characters. You might enjoy it once too. You never know.
