Sapphire and Steele is a British science fiction show that started airing July 10 1979 and ran through August 31 1982. I thought I would take a look when I ran across a reference to it on the internet. There's a recent dvd set out from Shout Factory. There was a prevous set from A&E back in 2004. I got the Shout Factory version from the library. All the episodes are on YouTube in handy Assignment packages.
It's got David McCallum and Joanna Lumley in the title roles of Sapphire and Steele. They are some sort of aliens who have some powers and can communicate telepathically. They had 6 adventures which were spread out over 34 episodes. The first 5 Assignments are all 6 episodes each. I found the stories dull as dishwater and about as palatable. The format is tedious and I gave up somewhere near the end of the 3rd Assignment.
They get a lot of nice comments on the IMDb where it scores an incredible 8.3. I gave it a 5 but might change that to a 4. It's been compared to Doctor Who but I can't see it, other than they repeat the last part of the prevous episode to catch you up. Writer creator PJ Hammond would later write for Torchwood. I haven't seen that series but I did like his episodes of Midsomer Murders. I can't recommend S&S but others might like it.
