Our first film was something I noticed on NetFlix and thought I would take a chance. By the time it arrived I had forgotten what I read about Gore From Outer Space. I looked it up again after I got home and it's a 2001 Japanese movie that is a sequel (loosely, from what I read) to Crazy Lips. I haven't seen that but I did put it on my NteFlix queue. GFOS is a weird film, some what surreal, with a misleading title. There isn't really any gore but there are aliens, maybe. A young woman takes a cab to the police and claims her daughter has disappeared. The police go to her home only to find her husband claims they never had a daughter. What follows is like a fever dream about aliens, dolls, murder and rape. There isn't really anyway to tell what just happened and somehow I found that refreshingly different. It's got some comedy, some tragedy, some nastyness and little blood. It mostly seems to be looked at poorly and I can understand, it's certainly not going to appeal to everyone.
Our second film was the 1964 film Tintin And The Blue Oranges. I liked it for the second time and have to say I found it more enjoyable, and more like Tintin, than the recent big budget animated film by Speilberg. I got a copy of the really nice British Film Institute dvd from Amazon UK. With a bit of help from DVD FAB I was able to turn a PAL copy into something I could watch on my own Region 1 dvd player. The BFI DVD comes with a nice booklet.
