Here's another film I just saw sitting on the shelf at the library. Green For Danger is a 1946 British film that was adapted from the Christianna Brand novel of the same name. I haven't read any of her books and doubt I'm going to start now. The screenplay is by Sidney Gilliat and Claud Gurney. The film was directed by Sidney Gilliat who would switch to directing and then producing. He'd later produce the 4 St Trinians films which featured Alastair Sim playing a bother and his sister. Sim is also in this film along with co-stars Trevor Howard, Sally Gray and Rosamund John. It's a murder mystery set in 1942 when buzzbombs were falling on England. In a small country town a man dies just before he was to be operated on. It looks like murder and Alastair is called in to investigate. It's 91 minutes and it moves along kind of slowly until Alastair shows up about a third of the way into the movie. He pokes along looking for clues and eventually he gets the job done. I really enjoyed it. There's a good mystery and a good ending. It scores well on the IMDb and it's deserving. I'm glad to have seen it and I'd watch it again. You can find a copy on YouTube above.
