Zero Focus is a 1961 Japanese crime film which was directed by Yoshitaro Nomura. The screenplay was written by Shinobu Hashimoto and Yoji Yamada. It's based on a novel by Seicho Matsumoto. I hadn't heard of it but the description on NetFlix made me interested. A woman marries and a week later her husband goes off on a business trip. When he doesn't come back she calls his boss. They haven't heard anything but offer to take her to the town her husband went to. There's a lot of travel, some on a train, some on a bus, the countryside and villages are pleasant to look at. It's a nice looking film for the most part. The lady finds some clues and but no husband. The story turns violent when the husband's brother is poisoned. She keeps digging into things even though the police are convinced they have the answer. They don't. The story kept me interested all the way through with all its nice little reveals. It all moves along pretty quickly. I liked the lady, played by Yoshiko Kuga, and the other characters were just right. Well worth looking at.
