I have been watching Never Mind The Buzzcocks for a while, mostly random episodes, but now I've started going through the series from the beginning. It's a music themed British panel show that started November 12 1996. Can you guess where the title comes from? Mark LaMarr is the first host. I really hadn't seen anything with Mark in it before but here he's pretty darn funny. He's got a dry acerbic style that appeals to me. He'd be there for the first 17 series and then be followed by Simon Amsell and Rhod Gilbert. Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes are the team captains and each team has two guest panelists made up of other comedians, TV personalities and pop stars. I know Phil from Qi and other programs he's been on but I didn't know anything about Sean. Phil has lasted the whole series but Sean would leave after 10 series. Sean would be followed by Bill Baily for the next 11 series and be followed by Noel Fielding. I know a lot of the guest comedians and some of the actors but don't know many of the pop stars. The guest list over the last 18 years is pretty amazing. There are different rounds of questions that gain points for the teams. There's a guess what happens next in a video round, a guess the song the panelists are trying to recreate with noises round, a guess who the older pop star is from a line up and lastly a finish the lyric round. There's a lot of horsing around and jokes packed in with the music.
