To Please A Lady was one of the films that popped up on a Netflix search for Film Noir material. It's on a 2 movie disc with another Barbara Stanwick film and it turns out to be less of a Noir than a romantic drama. Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwick star along with Adolph Monjou, Roland Winters and Will Geer. The setting is the world of race cars, Gable is a car racer and Barbara is a newspaper columnist. She writes a damming column after a man is killed at a race Clark was driving in. He'd already been blamed for the death of a man at a past race and the fans sure don't care for him. He sells his car and becomes a stunt driver. He saves his money and buys a new car in a different category of racing. The pair have a bit of an attraction that develops over the course of the movie but of course they live in different worlds so there's all that tension. It's about average and mostly entertaining but I was kind of bored with the car racing. That's just not that interesting to me. Sadly there's nothing Noir about it. Not something I would need to see again.
