A whole pile of films, 500 plus, popped up on the Internet Archive a couple of weeks ago. I've been looking through them to see what I want to download. That's an unusually high number of films to appear all at once and the odd thing is that they're dated back through March of 2015. I'm pretty certain they were not there this last year as I looked at the list pretty frequently and when the number changed it jumped more than 500 in a couple of days.
They're an odd lot of films too, a real mix of genres. I don't think they're all public domain, that's me assuming that they might not be PD, I'm just not sure. About 4 to 5 months ago a couple of hundred films appeared on the site all at once and they didn't seem like they should all be Public Domain either. Almost all of them disappeared after a month. I managed to get a good number of films before they disappeared. I'm usually looking for films that aren't out on DVD or available through one source or another. Others are films I have a vague interest in. If they were on Netflix they would languish near the bottom of my Queue for a long time, their status turning to Availability Unknown because there were more films I wanted to see first.
Hard to know what people will like, I'm more interested in the horror and science fiction titles. Some of the titles include: Rescue From Gilligan's Island, Revenge Of The Zombies, Butterflies Are Free, Lady Frankenstein, How Awful About Allan, 16 Candles, The Screaming Skull, Barbarella, The Guy From Harlem, Blue Velvet, Get Christie Love, The Eye Creatures, Driller Killer, Roadie, The Lady Vanishes, Meatballs 4, Warning From Space, Klute, D.O.A., Vengeance Of The Zombies, Goldilocks And The Three Bares, One Eyed Jack, Santa Claus (VS The Devil), Yellow Teddy Bears and many more. The quality is mixed, a small number of them look pretty good, a larger number look like old VHS copies, and some of the rest, pretty awful.
One of the ones that looked poor was The Dog Of Blackwood Castle. It's a German film from the 1960's that adapts an Edgar Wallace crime novel. It's rather farcical and fun to watch. I wish it was better quality but I can't find it anywhere on DVD. Even Amazon Germany does not have it.
There's bound to be something for just about everybody, comedy, suspense, mystery, science fiction, western, drama, horror and more. If a title is unfamiliar look it up on the IMDb it might turn out to be interesting. That's how I found The Dog Of Blackwood Castle. I found two William Castle films I haven't seen before, Bug and Night Walker. Castle's Let's Kill Uncle is also there, it's a hoot. Castle's 13 Ghosts is another one posted. I always enjoy his work.
You can download anything you want to see later. That might be wise if some of these disappear like last time it happened.
