I found this DVD set on Amazon, it's a couple of discs, each with a different story. Each story is broken into two parts, each about 94 minutes. They're productions of Banque Paribas Luxembourg, Banquet et Caisse D'Epargne de l'etat, Harmony Gold Finance Luxembourg S.A. and Silvio Berlusconi Communications. The stories are filmed in various European and African locations.
Christopher Lee plays Sherlock Holmes and Patrick Macnee plays Dr Watson. The latter is a bit to comical but he grew on me as the story progressed. It's later in his life and Sherlock is feeling older. He thinks of retirement with the bees.
Sherlock Holmes & The Leading Lady was written by HRF Keating and Bob Shayne; Peter Sasdy was the director.
Holmes is reunited with Irene Adler when he and Dr Watson travel to Vienna at the request of Mycroft. Morgan Fairchild plays Irene. She's ok but many other fine actors would have been better. Engelbert Humperdinck is in the cast. Irene's singing in an opera where a man is murdered. A scientist had developed a remote control bomb detonator and built a prototype. He had his plans stolen and chased the man to the theater. The man pushed the scientist off the fly in the theater. Holmes and Watson are sent to try to keep it out of anyone's hands but Britain's. A lot of other people have an interest, looking to benefit their own countries. There's plenty of double crossing and murder as they all vie for the device. Much of the location shooting was in Luxembourg. It looks pretty good.
Sherlock Holmes & The Incident At Victoria Falls was written by Garry O'Hara and Bob Shayne; Bill Corcoran was the director.
Mycroft comes to visit Holmes as he's packing up 221B Baker Street. He's going to retire to Sussex and raise bees. Mycroft asks him to come visit the King. The King wants Homes to go to South Africa to safeguard the Star Of India. There's danger a foot as other people are interested in stealing it for ill gotten gain and a native tribe feels that the jewel is rightfully theirs. Jenny Seagrove and Claude Akins are in the cast. There's a bit of location shooting at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
I enjoyed the episodes and the people on the screen. They didn't dwell on Holmes retirement plans much and that was fine. Nice locations on top. Glad to have seen them
