The fifth and last disc of the Stingray series played today. There were 7 episodes that first aired at various times in early 1965, other than the Christmas episode which played December 20 1964. The shows are on production order on the DVD, as opposed to the air dates. there were 39 episodes of the series and they followed it up with Thunderbirds.
The Cool Cave Man Another dream episode with Troy thinking he's fighting some undersea cavemen. This is after he'd been reading a pictorial history book looking for ideas for a costume for a fancy dress party at Atlanta's that night. Phones, the Commander and another Aquanaut turn up with cave man costumes. It's the second dream episode for Troy. I wonder if the props department got a big bolt of leopard print cheap.
A Nut for Marineville The undersea guys with the fins have built a ship with super strong metal that can hold off Stingray's missiles. A metallurgist is brought in to build a stronger metal to pierce the hull. He has less than 24 hours to do the job.
Trapped in the Depths A mad scientist, with a grudge, wants to destroy Marineville and he kidnaps Atlanta as part of his plan. Troy, Marina and Phones put a stop to that crackpot. It's the same undersea dwellers in this episode as last.
Eastern Eclipse Titan gets Agent X-2-Zero to break El Hudat out from the Marineville jail. It's pretty easy as they don't seem to have much security. I noticed in one scene that they had machine guns just feet away from the door to El Hudat's cell. The Stingray crew will spoil his plans.
A Christmas to Remember An orphan comes to stay with Atlanta and the Commander. His father had been a WASP aquanaut and he wants to follow in his father's footprints. Hopefully when he grows up he won't die young, huh.
Troy takes the kid on a trip in Stingray to test their theory that no one could have escaped the strange undersea craft they shot down. No one looked very hard in the ship and there's a secret compartment. Phones gets caught and Troy and the kid help rescue him.
The Lighthouse Dwellers The need to shut down an obsolete lighthouse causes the undersea dwellers to attack the lighthouse. They use the light to generate electricity using the movement of sea plants. At the least, you can always count on the show to have some goofy science.
Aquanaut of the Year Troy wins the title and parties late. Next morning he gets woken up by the This Is You Life show and he has to do the program in his housecoat and pajamas. most of the show is made up of clips.
Well, now I'm done and I can put that behind me. I still think the show has poor scripts but they certainly have improved the puppets, sets and props since they started. I'm still liking Supercar better.
