Another series of Bergerac bites the dust. The third series aired from December 1983 to February 1984. John Nettles appears as Jim Bergerac. He's a detective for Le Bureau des Étrangers which translates to The Foreigners' Office. It's a fictional department dealing with non-Jersey residents. It's a big tourist destination and there's a bunch of rich people that live there so there's always a gaggle of people coming and going. Perfect for a cop show. It's a nice destination to wind up dead, plenty of scenery and the ocean.
Ninety Per Cent Proof has Bergerac tricked into helping a woman who claims her husband is going to kill her. The baddies knock him out in her hotel room and pour booze on and into him. Jim's supposed to be on the wagon. When he wakes up in the bathroom the woman is lying on the floor covered in blood. He stumbles down to the lobby and passes out. Jim starts digging into things and the tricksters lead him to a guy who's on trial. It was all to make Bergerac look bad in court. Now he's got to figure out how to get those guys.
A Hole in the Bucket has Jim get involved with a woman in the witness protection. Another cop had brought here to Jersey to hid her before the trial. The woman is kind of stupid and puts everyone in danger.
Holiday Snaps has Jim working with the French police. A man wakes to find his wife murdered. When he gets home everyone is so helpful. Then weird things start to happen to the man. It all makes Jim dig deeper and what he finds isn't too pleasant.
Ice Maiden refers to a lady jewel thief. She's cool as a cucumber and Jim's on her case. She's clever and she gets away but not with the loot.
Come Out Fighting is set in the boxing world.
A Touch of Eastern Promise has Charlie, Bergerac's ex-wife's father, entertaining a rich Arab who brings family baggage with him. Charlie's hotel would have a retractable dome that would keep the rain off of the guests. Sadly the thing falls apart.
A Cry in the Night has a dead body wash up on shore. It came from a boat filled with friends. The story doesn't add up and Jim gets right on the case.
The Company You Keep is about house burglars and the foolish wife of a rich guy.
Tug of War is about a dad who kidnaps his son and takes him to Jersey. Jim has to track him down and bring him in.
House Guests has Jim against some terrorists who break into a house to rob the men.
Usually there's a bit of humor and some bit of personal drama with Jim. Last season he had something going on with Celia Imrie but this season he seems to spend some time with his ex-wife. She actually helps a bit here and there. I have read a bit on the show and know he gets another girlfriend or two.
