The 15 Series of Top Gear started June 27 and ended on August1 2010 and there were 6 episodes. The usual gang of idiots are back: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Jeremy Clarkson keeps getting younger as I watch the series in reverse order. He's getting slimmer too. The other two don't change quite so much.
They have lots of fun stuff going on. Hammond takes the old Chevrolet Lacetti from their Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment and give it a Viking Burial. He puts it in the path of an old smokestack that's going down. It nearly covers the car. Then he joins Jeremy at the test track to introduce their new KIA Cee'd to Nick Robinson, Al Murray, Peter Jones, Petra 23 from Essex, Johnny Vaughan, Bill Bailey, Louie Spence and Amy Williams. Drivers in the car for the rest of the series are Alastair Campbell, Rupert Grint, Andy Garcia, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and Jeff Goldblum.
In other episodes they build Camper vans into cars that weren't designed for that purpose. They don't do that well and Clarkson's 3 story van falls over during the night. They get it going again and get back on the road again. Here's a picture of the other guys pushing it over a cliff.
Here's a nice picture of the cliff while an unsuspecting Jeremy enjoys an ice cream.
I'm not sure why but I really like shows that break things. Both having a reason and not having a reason are about the same. I don't think I'm alone with this fondness.
The trio spends some time out of the country.. May heads for Iceland to revive one of the Toyota Hilux trucks that was in the as yet unseen, by me, Polar Special. He drives it close to the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano and collects some hot lava.
The trio heads to the German Autobahn with some second hand 4 door salon cars and then they meet The Stig's German cousin. Hammond is in Riksgränsen to see a Volkswagen Touareg.
In one segment they buy classic British sport cars and drive them to the closed and abandoned factories where they were made. The have some tests on the cars, including one to see how waterproof they are. They fill the cars with water and try a lap around the track.
There are the more normal car tests on the Top Gear track. They have some fancy editing and graphics that make those segments loud and busy. I enjoy the natter about the car more than the actual car itself. All are good enough presenters, and journalists, that have interesting things to say most of the time. Sometimes when they act more like idiots it's slightly annoying. I'm still having a good time watching the series and will head for the 14th Series next.
