Besides that series of crappy horror films that I got for 20 cents a disc, I also picked up a copy of the 1972 British film Alice's Adventures In Wonderland for cheap. If I had heard about it in the past, I have long since forgotten it. It's written and directed by William Sterling. The name wasn't familiar but I see from his IMDb listings that he was more often a producer and most of the work he did was for TV. This was his only feature film and it was his last work as a director.
Alice and her sisters are out with Mr Dodgson, they picnic and he reads, them from his Alice novel. Alice falls asleep and dreams her trip to Wonderland.
There's a massive and interesting cast, here's a few I know: Michael Crawford, Ralph Richardson, Roy Kinnear, Peter Sellers, Dudley Moore, Dennis Waterman, Dennis Price, Flora Robson and Spike Milligan.
It was pretty well cast, there were good sets and costumes. The make up was intentionally trying to reproduce the characters in the John Tenniel drawings in the first edition of the novel. I didn't care that much for the songs but I'm not much of a musical fan. It was worth the 47 or so cents that I paid for it. I might watch it again someday.
