I found a second movie with cottage in the title the day after I received The Cottage in the mail from Netflix. Cottage Country was in the $2 movies at Family Dollar. It's rare to find anything there but once in a while I thumb through the stack of ex-Netflix discs and occasionally there's one to pick up. I noticed Tyler Labine's fave looking out at me from the image on the disc showing through the trans window of the package. The movies are stuck into a folded bit of cardstock and all the info you get is the face of the DVD.
Tyler was in Reaper and Tucker And Dale Versus Evil, I enjoyed both, I haven't seen anything much of his other work, the couple of things I did see I don't remember him in. No matter. The lady with Tyler above is Malin Akerman, I didn't know who she was but she has a long list of credits on the IMDb. Most of it seems to be the sort of thing I wouldn't watch.
They're a couple going on a week long vacation to his parent's cabin. Tyler plans to propose and Malin finds the ring in his bag before they leave. They get there after leaving late because Tyler's boss made him stay late. Tyler is a big pussy and he lets everyone walk all over him. Tyler's brother Salinger shows up to interrupt their vacation. He didn't bother to check the website that Tyler made to book time at the cabin and neither did Tyler's mom when she said there wasn't anyone there. Rather than leave the couple alone Salinger stays and unbeknownst to Tyler and Malin he invites his pals to the cabin.
Things get tense, emotions flare and that sack of shit Salinger is dead with an axe in his neck. I couldn't blame Tyler, his brother is a selfish bully. Malin isn't going to let murder get in the way of getting married so they kill the girlfriend and bury the bodies. Things go downhill from there.
It's funny enough but it's still not much better than average, especially after seeing The Cottage. I didn't feel I'd wasted my two bucks but I doubt that I'd watch it much more than another time and who knows when that might be. With the backlog of stuff to watch I might not ever have time.
