I'm watching the third side of the 12 Movie Sci-Fi Pack today. I'd seen one of the trio of SF films before but the other two were new to me. You can read about Alien Lockdown here.
Earthstorm is a 2006 TV movie about an asteroid that hits the moon. Parts break off and start plunging Earthward. The government gets Stephen Baldwin, an explosive expert, to go to the moon to blow up the giant gash and stabilizer the moon. Kind of like Armageddon but no where near as good, Stephen Baldwin is no Bruce Willis. I gave it a 2 on the IMDb and that's all the entertainment I got out of it.
Ice Twisters is a 2009 TV movie about a government funded program to make rain in drought areas. It goes wrong and causes surprise ice twisters that destroy property and freeze people into solid lumps of flesh. A scientist turned SF writer leads the group to save the world. There's plenty of running about, below average CGI and people freezing to death. Like Earthstorm it's a pretty ambitious picture. They manage to get a bit more of an interesting story up on the screen. The evil Senator who tries to cover up the problem brings the score but the Senator getting his comeuppance made me bump it up to a 4, though that might be generous. Twenty point one percent of the votes are a 4.
