The Coroner is another crime show, this one with a coroner and a cop investigating the deaths in the fictional seaside town of Lighthaven in South Devon. It's near Exeter, Dartmoor and Plymouth. It's all very pretty to look at. Nice little bay, picturesque houses. The series was created by Sally Abbott. BBC Birmingham made a second series and then cancelled the program.
Claire Goose is Jane Kennedy, is Lighthaven's coroner. Some might remember Claire as one of the detectives in Waking The Dead. Jane's not the kind of coroner who does any lab work, she's the head of the Coroner's Court. Jane left town and now she's back. Jane's single, with a 15 year daughter, and a mother, living with her. Matt Bardock is Detective Sergeant Davey Higgins. He and Jane were childhood sweethearts, they broke up and married others. Now the two of them work together investigating the deaths. The story line intertwines between the investigation and family life. The family often gets wrapped up in the investigations.
On the dire scale it's pretty light, even the dead aren't too gross, say compared to a Bones or CSI type show. Problem is, it's too much like all those shows, there's nothing much to make it stand out from the pack. Several of the pack have more interesting characters in their shows, gives them an advantage in the ratings. I'll check out the second series at the library, it's supposed to be out in August, who knows when they might get it. I don't feel the need to add them to my collection for re-watching.
