The BBC did a TV movie of The Lady Vanishes in 2013. They went back to the novel The Wheel Spin by Ethel Lina White and the story is substantially different. Gone are the whole Nazi and spy plot. A young English woman suffers a fall and a bump on her head. Tuppence Middleton plays the young woman. She sits in the car and talks to an English woman, then she takes a nap, when she awakes the woman is gone and no one knows who she's talking about. Selina Cadell, some might know her from Doc Martin where she plays the local pharmacist, plays Miss Froy. She's been the governess for a Duke and she accidentally discovers something that has put her in deadly danger.
As Tuppence looks for Miss Froy she disturbs all around her and no one seems to believe her. Tom Hughes plays a young man who befriends her but doesn't really believe her. It takes a while to get the truth to come out and the baddies are a step ahead of the game.
I didn't find the characters as interesting as they are in the other two versions. The Charters and Caldicott characters are women in this version and a lot less likeable. Over all I'd be happy to stick to the other versions but it was nice to see what they did.
