Why Don't You Play In Hell 2013 Written and directed by Sion Sono.I've not seen any of his films before.
A bunch of teens start making films, they dream of making it big, but ten years on they still haven't achieved success. The film group gets pulled into the middle of a Yakuza fight and everything goes to hell. I found the film makers rather annoying and would rather not spend time with them. The leader of the group is the guy in the vest above. He's really annoying.
I liked the scenes with the gangsters, especially with Jun Kunimura, that's him in the white hat. The Yakuza leader he plays is a bit of an idiot and his daughter is a real piece of shit. She runs off from the real film she's acting in, all paid for daddy as a surprise for his wife who's getting out of prison. The daughter ropes a stupid nerdy guy into helping her escape, the gang finds the couple anyway, they start beating the poor nerd. Daddy thinks something is going on between them, there isn't, but the daughter doesn't say or do anything to save the guy, to her he's just a thing to be used and tossed away.
There's nothing good about that family and I was happy to see them get slaughtered at the end of the film. I was real sorry that the leader of the film group got away, he was totally annoying. I liked the film some of the time but was so disappointed that the leader of the film makers did not get hacked to pieces that I gave it a 6 instead of a 7 on the IMDb.
There are some laughs, splashy gore effects and other fun scenes but the film is way too long at 129 minutes. The whole subplot with the poor nerdy guy the daughter picks up could have been taken out, the film shortened, and the pace picked up. I wouldn't need to see it again. It was on Amazon Prime so it didn't cost me much of anything to see it. I wouldn't need the DVD, there's a $14.99 DVD on Amazon Prime. The Blu-ray is priced at $174.95 and $229.95, so you know those are right out.
