Chicago Syndicate 1955 Story by William Sackheim, screenplay by Joseph Hoffman, directed by Fred F Sears. Fred had a short career that ended with his death in 1957. He acted in over 75 pictures, starting in 1946 with The Return Of Rusty. I haven't seen that or most of his acting roles. He started directing in 1949 and directed 50 feature films and some TV. I hadn't seen many of them but the ones that I have do stick out; Rock Around The Clock 1956, The Werewolf 1956, Earth Vs The Flying Saucers 1956, The Night The World Exploded 1957 and The Giant Claw 1957.
Dennis O'Keefe is a war hero and an accountant, the police offer him $60,000 to go under cover with the Chicago mob. They want to get the big cheese, played by Paul Stewart, for the murder of his accountant. Dennis works his way into Paul's business pretty well and sets about collecting evidence. Complicating his action are two women, played by Abbe Lane and Allison Hayes. Allison is trouble and a good reminder of the sort of women to stay away from.
It's fairly interesting but it's a big slow paced and predictable. One couldn't say it was really original. The actors are what make it better than average for me, especially Paul Stewart, he's always up to par. You can see it on YouTube in the link above.
