The Trygun Factor 1966 Based on the novel by Edgar Wallace, screenplay by Derry Quinn and Stanley Munroe, directed by Cyril Frankel.
Stewart Granger is Superintendent Cooper-Smith of Scotland Yard, he's investigating a rash of robberies, the last of which involved a murder. The trail of clues leads him to a stately mansion, a wealthy old lady, and an order of nuns. The nuns run a pottery business on the grounds, the viewer knows it's secretly used to smuggle gold out of the country. Problem for the Super? He can't get anyone to take a chance on a search warrant based on his suspicions, they're afraid it would stir things up with their higher ups. Eventually the truth comes out and Cooper-Smith gets the baddie and the pretty lady. Susan Hampshire, that's her in the picture above, is the pretty lady.
There's hattrick of crime: robbery, murder and smuggling, with a good bit of action, and it all moves along quite nicely. It's got a bit of a sense of humor and doesn't take itself very seriously. The cast is good, I recognized Stewart Granger, James Robertson Justice, Allan Cuthbertson, Colin Gordon, Caroline Blakiston, Eddie Arent and Robert Morely, I wasn't sure on any of the others. I enjoyed the film and was glad to have seen it. I've watch it again.
