The Fickle Finger Of Fate 1967 Written by Jim Henaghan and Aurelio López Monis, directed by Richard Rush, and produced by Sidney W Pink. A Spanish and American production that was distributed in the US by Troma. It's Spanish title is El Dedo Del Destino, it's also known as The Cups Of San Sebastian though there are no cups in the movie. Richard Rush didn't direct many films, just a dozen, and most of them I haven't seen. Besides this movie I've seen Psych-Out, Freebie And The Bean, The Stunt Man and Color Of Night. I liked The Stunt Man best, I might want to see a couple of his earlier exploitation films but who knows if that will happen.
Tab Hunter is an engineer who's in Spain on business. On leaving he's detained by the police, a small statue has been found in his luggage, the statue is one of a pair of hand statues that were stolen from a church. They know he's not the guilty party but they want him to play along and help catch the real crook. Tab doesn't want to but of course the police have effective persuasion techniques the world over.
Tab spends the movie in constant pratfall mode, either he's falling down on his own or someone is knocking him down. Besides his dealings with the police, Tab gets annoyed by a drunken guy, has issues with the hotel manager, gets befriended by a local street urchin, and has a nice time with some ladies from a beauty pageant. He manages to stay alive and eventually the killer is caught. He would have gotten home in time for his wedding but at the last minute he caught the wrong plane. He's that sort of doofus. Sometimes I get tired of that sort of doofus. It's a weak script with a broader is better attitude. Sort of fun but below average. There doesn't seem to be a Troma DVD or Blu-ray but that's OK, I wouldn't seen to see it again.
