The Studio Murder Mystery 1929 Based on the novel of the same name by A Channing Edington and Carmen Ballen Edington, adapted with additional dialog by Frank Tuttle, screenplay by Ethel Doherty, directed by Frank Tuttle.
Fredric March plays an actor that's a straight up womanizer. He's murdered soon after we meet him and there's a list of people who wanted him done in. Florence Eldridge plays the wife, Doris Hill plays the newest girlfriend, Warner Oland is the director he's bothering, Gardner James is Doris's brother and Guy Oliver is her father.
Neil Hamilton plays a writer who gets involved with the murder. Eugene Pallette plays the police Lieutenant who gets the case. I had just been watching Eugene in a couple of the Philo Vance mysteries. He's pretty much the same sort of cop, a bit blustery and bull headed.
The mystery is pretty much average. I did like the location shooting in the Paramount lot and in the studio buildings. You can check out a copy in the link in the title above.
