The Brokenwood Mysteries Series 7 The show increases the number of episodes to 6 this year, the previous years all had four 95 min episodes.
Kia ora, that's hello, goodbye and thank you in Maori. At this point the show is like seeing a welcome friend. The regulars are all there, Neil Rea as Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepard, Fern Sutherland as Detective Kristin Sims, Nic Sampson as Detective Constable Sam Breen, and Cristina Ionda as Dr Gina Kadinsky. Detective Breen decides to leave the island for another island in the second episode. He's headed for the Solomon Islands, in show girlfriend takes a job there. Jarod Rawiri plays his replacement, Detective Constable Daniel Chalmers. I like all the cast and I like this new guy.
The plots all have some fun settings and interesting murders: an antiques TV show host is killed by a French Garotte torture chair, someone is killed at the local health retreat, a failed bank robbery by four men in horse face masks leaves the bank manager dead, a celebrity cook is pitchforked in her barn, a man is strangled with film stock in a movie theater that's been set a fire, and two woman are found dead after a drunken 21st birthday party.
As usual the writing continues to be top notch, they've got a good sense of humor and there are some nice locations to look at. I was quite happy to watch the episodes and watched them all in less than 24 hours. Unusual of late, I hardly seem driven to watch much regular TV programing, old or new. I'm more excited over the other two New Zealand shows I've been watching the last couple of months, Taskmaster and Have You Been Paying Attention. Haere rā.
