Van Der Valk Series 1 Based on the novels of Nicolas Freeling, written by series creator Chris Murray, directed by Colin Teague, Max Porcelijn, Jean van de Velde. The first series had three 89 min stories and they aired in April of 2020. The second series aired recently and I plan to watch that.
That's Van Der Valk in the middle, he's played by Marc Warren. Looking at his TV credits I seem to have seen him in a good number of TV shows but don't remember him at all. His TV credits go back to 1987 and a lot of it isn't the sort of show I would normally watch, either by choice or it just isn't being shown over here.
Left to right: Emma Fielding plays Van der Valk's boss Julia Dahlman, Luke Allan-Gale plays the casual easy going cop Brad de Vries, Maimie McCoy plays Van Der Valk's second Lucienne Hassell, Elliot Barnes-Worrell is the new detective Job Cloovers, and Darrell D'Silva plays the pathologist Hendrik Davie. They all do a good job at their parts.
I liked the series for the most part and I've learned to live with the moody detective type. Despite his annoying quirk Van der Valk does get the job done. I liked most of the other characters. The murders are pretty standard fair for a show like this but the stories are packed with enough distractions to keep my attention. It's fairly dark but it does have a sense of humor. It's nicely produced and there are plenty of interesting locations. I'm looking forward to the next lot.
