The Mind Of J G Reeder Series 1 & 2 Based on the Mr Reeder stories by Edgar Wallace. The 16 episodes were broadcast from 1969 to 1971. Two of the episodes were in color and the rest B&W. The complete series has been released in the UK by Network on 4 DVDs. I picked up one on Amazon, it's about 30 smackaroonies. You can find some of them on YouTube. The DVDs are Region 2 and need an all region DVD player. They can also be played PC with a DVD drive using VLC Player.
I've read four of the five Reeder books so far. They were written in the 1920s. They can be found as eBooks for free on Project Gutenberg or Amazon. The stories are droll, entertaining and humorous. On the surface Mr Reeder appears to be a mild and unassuming character in outdated clothes. His power lies in his brain and his intense interest in crime. His ability to root out underworld information keeps him well ahead of the baddies. Mr Reeder claims to have a criminal mind. Lucky for us he's decided to use it for catching crooks. The TV series uses a lot of the plots of the original stories and they do a fairly good job adapting them to the screen.
Hugh Burden plays Mr Reeder, that's him on the left, the other fellow is Willoughby Goddard. He's Sir Jason Toovey, Reeder's boss and the head prosecutor for the Department Of Public Prosecutions. Mona Bruce plays Reeder's annoying housekeeper, Gillian Lewis plays Miss Belman and Windsor Davies plays Chief Inspector Pyne.
They're a bit slow moving by today's standards but there's usually something going on most of the time. Might not appeal to everyone but I enjoyed them quite well and was glad to have picked up the DVDs.
