The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde 1968 Based on the Robert Louis Stevenson novella, screenplay by Ian McLellan Hunter, produced by Dan Curtis, directed by Charles Jarrott.
An American TV movie that was part of a series of adaptions of great American novels. It was made for ABC and filmed in Canada. I might have seen it, we had American channels on our cable TV back then, it would have been the sort of thing I would watch.
Jack Palance plays Dr Henry Jekyll and his creation Mr Hyde and he does a great job. He's mild and meek as Jekyll and nastily and strong as Hyde. Jekyll has created a potion that he hopes to use to free a man of his evil. The local medical community jeers him from the University lecture theater. He takes his potion and releases Mr Hyde. The beast of a man has a fun time at the pubs in the poorest parts of town. He's wild and spends freely, the locals like him, he even takes up with a woman. His activities quickly turn murderous. Jekyll can't control the beast and that leads to his end.
I haven't read the book since the 50s or 60s, I did read the Wikipedia synopsis and thought this was a good adaption of the book. I enjoyed the movie. You can check it out on YouTube. Link above. I bought the DVD set of 4 Dan Curtis films. Next I'll check out The Picture Of Dorian Gray.
