The 1% Club Series 1 Lee Mack hosts an ITV game show with a £100,000 prize. The 1st series has 8 episodes that aired in April and May of this year. ITV announced that there will be a second series.
A hundred contestants, they are the only audience, answer questions of increasing hardness. That's them, all racked up in a big arc around the circular video stage. Lee's got a little podium at the bottom of the stage. Each contestant is given $1000 at the start of the game. If they miss an answer they lose the grand and a chance to continue. The grand goes into the prize pot. The questions are mostly logic based and assigned a % based on the number of people who are expected to answer correctly. There's some behind the stage biz that gets that together. The contestants can also buy a pass for their grand, and stay in the game.
Lee jokes with the contestants as they win or lose along the way. Eventually most of the contestants are knocked out of the game. The last person, or persons, standing is offered $10,000 if they skip trying to answer the 1% question. If they go on and fail to get a correct answer, they go home with nothing. I found I could get correct answers on various ranges of questions but I only got the 1% question one time out of the 8 episodes. There's only 30 seconds to answer and it's easy to quickly lose control of the time.
I enjoyed the show, it's better than some of the big money game shows they make in the UK. I watched through the whole series mostly for Lee's interactions with the contestants. He makes jokes and often brings out the funny in the contestants. I wouldn't need to watch these again but I would watch the second series.
