Annika Series 1 Based on the BBC Annika Stranded radio mysteries, a series of short mysteries written by Nick Walker. Annika is voiced by Nicola Walker and the stories are set in Oslo.
Nick wrote 4 of the six TV episodes that aired in August and September 2021, the other writers were Lucia Haynes and Frances Poet. The directors were Phillip John and Fiona Walton.
Nicola Walker plays DI Annika, newly assigned to the Glasgow Marine Unit. She's a single mom with a daughter. There's some family drama mixed in with the murders. That's Nicole in the foreground, the others left to right are Ukweli Roach, Katie Leung and James Sives. That's the murder squad. They all have some personal drama going on.
A lot of the bodies turn up in the Clyde and there's plenty of boating. Annika is a rather dry and dower character. She occasionally breaks the fourth wall to make comments about what's going on, I grew to enjoy her cynical attitude. The crimes are typical of TV crime shows but with more water soaked corpses than most other shows.
I enjoyed the series, I might not watch it again but I would watch another series if one shows up.
