Murder On Lenox Avenue 1941 Story by Frank Wilson, screenplay by Vincent Valentini and Bryna Ivens, directed by Arthur Dreifuss. I don't seen too many all black cast films. This one turned up on YouTube and I was curious as it was a crime film. I did like the poster.
The movie is set in Harlem where many of the characters live in a large apartment building. The local business league has thrown out the shady guy in charge and he's going to get even by killing the nice man the locals have asked to lead them. The nice man's ward is a creep who's got one woman in trouble while planning to marry another woman. That woman's father wants her to marry the creep despite her being in love with a nicer guy. Some of the minor characters provide the humor. There's plenty of stuff going on in the script, it's a nice snapshot of life that seems real enough.
That story builds slowly, it keeps getting interrupted by musical numbers. That's fine, there's a fair bit of good music. It's nice and short and well made. I enjoyed it well enough to get to the end. It's really more a melodrama than a crime film. I doubt I'd need to see it again. I saw it on YouTube, the film looked fairly good, link in the title.
