Doctor Who - The Daleks in Color Last year they edited and colorized the second story of the first Doctor and played it on TV. I just got the new Blu-ray of the show and watched it.
The 7 episodes have been trimmed down to one 75 min episode. Each original show was nearly 25 mins each so a lot is missing, even factoring out the multiple credits and recaps of what happened each episode. It moves the story along quicker but lots of little scenes aren't there anymore, like how the Tardis food maker works. They do include a DVD with the Blu-ray that has the complete episodes to watch. It's duplicate material for me, the disc is the same disc that was released ages ago. They are so careless in the Blu-Ray production that they didn't even catch the mistake in the time of the B&W episodes, listing it as 75 mins instead of the 175 or mins it is. Sloppy, BBC, sloppy.
The color restoration isn't that great but the original masters of the B&W episodes aren't that great either. On a positive side the color helps bring out the depth that's missing on the B&W episode. They also add a lot of new music that's mixed so loud it's annoying. They even add new dialog for the Daleks. There's a short making of piece on the Blu-ray that talks about the re-write. Russell T Davies said he wanted it to be more accessible to the younger fan who has only the modern run under his belt. I watched the old episode disc, they are poorer to watch but more entertaining to me. It's a nice little oddity but less interesting than I had hoped.
