Have I Got News For You - US version on CNN
I watched the first episode of the show tonight. I thought it was entertaining and I had a few good laughs. It's formatted like the UK version with a host, two team captains and two guests. It runs 45 mins which is the length of the UK XL version. The UK episode is released in two lengths, just under a half hour for the regular episode and about 45 mins for the XL version. They're typically released a few days apart.
Roy Wood Jr hosting, Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin are the regular team captains, Matt Welch and Robin Thede were the guests. I found them all funny much of the time.
I have to say I didn't know know any of these comedians other than Michael Ian Black. I first saw him on Viva Variety and a few other TV shows of the last century. He wrote some movies I've seen but I haven't really kept up with his career. I hardly ever watch US TV anymore.
I found host Roy Wood Jr to be likeable and fumy. He's got some good face reaction pauses. I quit cable just before Jon Stewart left The Daily Show in 2015, Roy came on as a correspondent in 2015 and worked there until 2023. I've not seen any of that.
The British HIGNFY show is a favorite of mine, I've seen all the episodes from the last 35 years, the total episodes reached 600 with the 67th series. Most years see two series. Ian Hislop and Paul Merton are the team captains, currently there's a new host every episode. There's a story behind that but I'm not going to get into it.
